I Lost My Senior Prom

That was a statement that inspired me my freshman year, especially knowing that all of my classmates had the same sentiments as me and became the basis for how I first ran for Student Government. I worked for four years, building connections and finding resources to finally bring the formal to Viterbo students on February 10th, 2024.

This was a proud moment in my collegiate career as it wasn’t something I could claim sole responsibility for. I was lucky enough to be friends with the right people who were just as motivated as I was to get this to work and served mostly as the messenger between RHA, SGA, and SAAC in order to coordinate all of the funding and activities to bring the Enchanted Forest Masquerade to my classmates. It taught me that great things, especially as big and expensive as this, take time and patience to happen. I am so happy to be able to say that I didn’t give up after failing on my first attempt to make it happen, as the 200+ smiles I saw as I danced with my classmates reminded me why I stuck through all of the stress and long nights planning. I did it for myself, but I also did it for all of the seniors and juniors who had lost the opportunity to attend a formal dance thanks to Covid-19 and was able to give all of us one last hoorah on the dance floor while cheesy pop filled our ears. The biggest thing I learned as I did this was the insane amount of people and teamwork it took to plan it all. There were three separate organizations that split the work and each had over 15 members; not including the amount of staff involved for collecting pictures, acting as “chaperones”, catering, collecting decorations, and so much more to get everything to be what we envisioned. The work was done well enough to win a student-voted award at the end of the year as well as, “Best Student-Ran Campus Event”.
